Essentials of Successful Negotiation

Does the word “negotiation” conjure images of being holed up in a small office with a used-car salesman? If so, you’re not alone. Whether it’s buying a car or discussing a compensation package with a prospective employer, many of us feel that we lack the ability to be successful negotiators. But think about it… whether it was getting Mom and Dad to extend your curfew when you were a teenager, or convincing your spouse to take a vacation by the sea instead of in the mountains, you have negotiated virtually every day of your life!

During this workshop we’re going to put some structure to this process. You’re going to learn the ‘’game’’, the strategies, and how to come away with a win/win outcome where everyone is satisfied. You’ll have the opportunity to work with other participants to prepare a negotiation simulation, and then actually negotiate with another person.

At the end of this active-participation workshop, you should be able to:

  • Understand what it really means to negotiate
  • Comprehend basic elements of the negotiation process and their corresponding vocabulary
  • Explain the four possible outcomes of a negotiation
  • Share the ‘’secret’’ of how to gain power in a negotiation
  • Prepare for a negotiation using a Negotiation Preparation Worksheet
  • Execute a simple, one-to-one negotiation

We can’t promise that you’ll be a world-class negotiator by the end of the day. But we can assure you of one thing… when the workshop is over, you’ll wish it wasn’t.

So please join us on 28 May as we unveil the Essentials of Successful Negotiation with facilitator Ellen Francois-Jacobs.
